What a career it’s been so far – and he’s only a couple of decades in!
Christian Luís Eiroa’s family has been in tobacco far longer than that, of course, but his personal involvement only formally started about 25 years before the release of this CLE 25th Anniversary cigar. It’s a celebration of a man’s journey through an industry that often provides a lot of adventure as teams move around the world, make international partnerships, and try to survive the booms, busts, and winds of consumer preference.
It’s a wild ride, and Christian Eiroa has seen a lot. Now, with the CLE 25th Anniversary cigar, it’s time to reflect and enjoy a little.
This one is a Honduran puro – no surprise from a man whose roots are firmly planted into the soil there. He’s no dabbler, either. After working for his father’s company, Caribe Imported Cigars, he rose to serve as President of Camacho, overseeing the brand’s sale to Davidoff. Now, he works primarily under his own label named with his own initials, CLE cigars. This company was founded in 2012 and has had a number of impressive successes, including appearances on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of the Year list.
Amusingly enough, he had once promised his Asylum cigars partner Tom Lazuka that he would never indulge in a cigar named “anniversary” or “limited,” but he found that this occasion was irresistible. He pleads, “When you try these cigars, you will agree that they are worth the broken promise, especially since 2020 has been such a memorable year.” Asylum is another success story that we don’t have time for here, but it’s earned some very high ratings and has a decent band of hardcore followers at this point. Those are some seriously potent smokes!
Back to the CLE 25th Anniversary cigar.
These blends are made solely with Honduran leaf as the filler, binder, and wrapper. If you’re a fan of the rich flavor you get with Honduran tobacco, this might be a special smoke for you. Cigar Aficionado was into it, giving it a respectable 91 points and marking it as a cigar worthy of a few puffs, at the very least. If you want to hear the initial journey, there’s a 2005 interview Eiroa did with Cigar Aficionado that details everything from the start into the Camacho years. The funny thing is, it would have been a full story then. Now we’ve got another decade and a half to discuss.
The guy knows how to live, and he knows how to make a fine cigar. Here’s to the next 25 years, Mr. Eiroa!
