Byron 21st Century
But Nelson isn’t the first of his bloodline involved in the cigar world. Those roots go back to the mid-19th century and two cousins. These cousins owned a humble cigar factory on the outskirts of Havana with 12 employees. During this time, there was great demand in the United States and the United Kingdom for premium cigars. As a marketing technique, brands would often use Anglo-American names for various brands. These cousins created the Lord Byron brand, named after the famous English poet. The sticks were a hit. So much so that the cousins outgrew their small factory, and the family enjoyed success for generations.
Ricardo Alfonzo, a grandson of one of the cousins, eventually ran the company and unfortunately ran into a series of financial hardships. As a result, he had no choice but to sell the Lord Byron brand. Around 90 years later, his great-grandson, Nelson Alfonso, brought the brand back to the family in the form of the Byron 21st Century cigars. He utilized similar artwork as the originals, which adds a sense of history and honor to the cigar.
At the heart of the Byron 21st Century cigar is a part Dominican, part undisclosed filler blend. The binder is Dominican, and the wrapper is Ecuadorian Connecticut. The result is bread, cedar, pepper, and tobacco notes.
