Ave Maria Original
Ave Maria Original cigars were created by Cuban-born master blender A.J. Fernandez, the guy who, in a way, destroyed the six degrees of separation in the cigar industry by working with so many companies. A.J. is known for his hard to match work ethic and a single-minded focus on growing tobacco and making the highest quality cigars possible.
Ave Maria Original cigars are the ones that started it all for the brand. Also, as the flagship line, it brought the brand’s mission to the world. According to the Ave Maria Cigars website, “In a world of stronger and spicier, Ave Maria was made to be simply better. Better materials. Better balance. Better quality. Medium in body but full in flavor, each Ave Maria vitola graces your palate with a luxurious bouquet and savory aromas.”
The Original blend uses Honduran and Nicaraguan viso along with a touch of Nicaraguan ligero. The binder leaf is Habano grown in Nicaragua soil. An Ecuadorian Habano leaf covers everything up, and this Templar Knight is ready to put in work.
On the cold draw, we’re getting some hay, and that’s about it. Once lit, there is a light spice, wood, nuts, pepper, and a nice creamy finish. About halfway through, the smoke becomes chewy, and coffee, earth, and leather notes join the rest as the pepper picks up. Things remain fairly balanced from this point.
This is an excellent cigar, but don’t just take our word for it. Head over to the Ave Maria website and check out the glowing reviews left by some of the industry’s heaviest hitters after participating in a blind taste test.
Please enjoy Ave Maria Original cigars at your leisure.
