Most folks can barely hold a job for more than three years. Many companies will come and go without hitting the ten year mark. Things change so quickly nowadays that there’s hardly time to catch your breath.
But there are still some things that are built to last.
The Arturo Fuente cigar company started formally in 1912 in Tampa, Florida and ultimately celebrated its hundredth birthday in 2012 not far from Bonao in the Dominican Republic (where Chateau de la Fuente is located). There were interruptions in cigar rolling along the way, multiple relocations, revolutions, embargoes, factory fires, and more… but the Fuente family had a tremendous amount to celebrate as they hit their hundredth year since commencing operations.
The commemorative cigar was dubbed the “OpusX Destino al Siglo” (i.e. “century of destiny”).
In a departure from the much beloved OpusX template, the Destino al Siglo uses a Habano-seed Dominican sun-grown wrapper, instead of a Corojo. Inside, the Dominican blend is all Fuente, grown from rich soil in the families local plantations, carefully selected for quality, and rolled by experts. The flavors are big, bold, and complex, and with noticeable flavors of milk chocolate, cedar, and holiday spice.
This cigar is full strength, carrying 100 years of history within its folded leaves.
Take your time smoking it – the Fuentes sure took their time making it.
