This 92-rated beauty features a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, along with a blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran long-fillers. The flavors are a dessert unto themselves: rich chocolate, sweet cream, raisin, and a touch of pepper spice. Thanks to the box press, you’ll get a nice even flavor profile and a slower burn that will let you get as much enjoyment as possible out of this stick.
The A.J. Fernandez San Lotano Requiem Maduro is an homage to the family’s hometown and history in the cigar industry. A.J. was born in San Luis, Cuba, where his father and grandfather both worked in tobacco. People from that area refer to the inhabitants of San Luis as “Lutanos,” but you’ll notice that the cigar is called “Lotano” with an “o.”
The reason is that someone goofed.
Somewhere along the line from A.J. to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office, a typo happened. But A.J. is clearly a man who can take things in stride. He simply went with it, and now we have this line of cigars. They’re no less delicious for the error. Perhaps in a parallel universe somewhere, A.J. Fernandez is from San Lois, Cuba, and has a cigar named the San Lotano. We’ll never know…
