Once upon a time in Europe, there was no smoking, really. No pipes, no cigarettes, and certainly no cigars. The reason was simple: there was no tobacco! All the tobacco was in a far-off land that was almost totally unknown to Europeans.

Italian explorer Christopher Columbus made landfall in the Bahamas on October 12th of that year, and the rest is history. Tobacco is a rich part of that history. Eventually, people in the New World got hooked and sent their beloved leaf back to the Old World, where still more people got hooked. Demand for tobacco skyrocketed and here we are, with a cigar to commemorate Columbus’s historic voyages.
