Every cigar company has its core offerings and specialties – the things the company hangs its hat on and that the market loves. But as time goes on, and they continue to perfect those things, they also experiment, occasionally adding new treasures to the trove when something proves excellent enough.
For A.J. Fernandez, there wasn’t a single Broadleaf cigar in the portfolio. Not a single one. It was as if that kind of tobacco didn’t even exist. But, as we say, the company was busy doing other things, like tallying up awards and 90+ ratings on the cigars that are their bread and butter. One of those things was the Enclave cigar, which was recognized as the #20 cigar of 2016 by Cigar Aficionado. Once you’ve got a hit, you need to keep experimenting with it to see if there are other ways to enjoy a good thing.
It turns out, there was. In fact, there was something even better – the A.J. Fernandez Enclave Broadleaf!
The cigar took down a 93 rating in 2019 and was described as having a wealth of inviting flavors like leather, mineral, salted milk chocolate, vanilla bean, anise, and more. The interior blend is all Nicaraguan, in true A.J. Fernandez style. But for their first broadleaf, they went back to the source: Connecticut. Clearly, they know what they’re doing with this tobacco.
Maybe it’s “beginner’s” luck?
