Ace Prime Pichardo Reserva Familiar San Andrés cigars are the spiciest installment in the Pichardo Reserva Familiar series (the other two being Connecticut and Habano-wrapped versions). Sporting a dark and manly Maduro leaf, this one brings medium-full strength and a wealth of rich flavor, including earth, dark cocoa, and something like cayenne pepper.
In the maker’s words, “The San Andrés will surprise you with an earthy taste that masterfully highlights the sweetness of the wrapper, resulting in a very unique experience. This truly is a great cigar, which will please even the most sophisticated aficionado.”
The brand is a new one at the time of this writing, having just been launched in 2019. In cigar world terms, you’re practically a newborn until at least your second or third generation in the business. That doesn’t mean you can’t make something great, of course. And because Don Eradio Pichardo is a fourth-generation cigar man, he’s totally covered.
He’s in the club. Period.
A master blender from Cuba, Pichardo has a lifetime of experience to draw on when blending his own stogies like the Ace Prime Pichardo Reserva Familiar San Andrés cigar. Working for Habanos S.A. on premium brands like Partagas and others, he gained a wealth of skill in recognizing high-quality tobaccos and blending them artfully as only a maestro can.
So, what did he choose to make his namesake cigar special? Well, the long-filler blend in the Ace Prime Pichardo Reserva Familiar San Andrés cigar is a combination of leaves from Nicaragua – farms in Ometepe, Estelí, and Jalapa. This approach allows for the blend to become multi-dimensional instead of just offering one note. The binder is a carefully selected Habano seed also grown in Nicaragua. The finishing touch is provided by the Mexican San Andrés wrapper leaf – a leaf known for a mature flavor led by an unmistakable spice punch.
Those knowledgeable about the Pichardo Reserva Familiar line will notice that the long-filler blend is a little different here than with Connecticut or Habano-wrapped versions. We take that as a mark that Don Eradio wasn’t asleep at the wheel. Instead of robotically copying the same blend and just replacing the wrapper, he made the adjustment that perhaps was needed to ensure that the final product is of a sufficient quality level to carry the family name.
We expect nothing less.
