Ace Prime Pichardo Maduro
The Pichardo line of cigars is named for one of the founders of Ace Prime, Don Eradio Pichardo. As a fourth-generation cigar man who used to work for Habanos in Cuba, he has a considerable wealth of knowledge to draw on when creating smokes like the Pichardo Maduro. From his factory in Nicaragua, he’s been responsible for a number of premium smokes for other brands. But as fate would have it, a partnership with tobacco industry consultant and international entrepreneur Luciano Meirelles led him down a path that would lead to cigar lines like this that carry his own name. Ace Prime is a fairly new brand (as of the time of this writing), having just been launched in 2019, but the expertise behind it goes back decades.
The Ace Prime Pichardo Maduro cigar is made with a mix of Nicaraguan tobaccos underneath its Brazilian wrapper. The overall strength is medium-full, so there are plenty of potencies to experience while you savor the flavors of this early offering from the company. We’re glad to see that the brand is offering a mix of both Nicaraguan puros and blends that incorporate leaf from a number of other countries. We expect this will lead to more interesting cigars and probably more attention to the company as it grows.
Ace Prime Pichardo Maduro cigars also have a companion blend with a Sumatra wrapper called the Clasico, which received very positive reviews from Cigar Aficionado. At 93 points, this line is probably the most successful of the company’s early blends, so the Maduro is definitely worth a shot if you prefer dark fermented tobacco to the lighter Sumatra wrapper of the Clasico. Tabacalera Pichardo is on the map under its own name with these cigars. Light one up and experience a wave of flavor from an old man who’s somehow also the new kid on the block.
