A Wonderful Short Story

Review by MonkeyDan on November 19, 2007

I call this stick old reliable because I have been enjoying them for years. Each time they have never disappointed. I am surprised that I have not reviewed this cigar previously. The Short Story and myself go way back to my second job out of college. This was my first real job in which I was able to afford higher quality smokes that were over five bucks back in the early 1990s. My boss, Joe introduced me to the Hemingway series and have been addicted since. The Hemingway Short Story is a perfecto shape smoke that measures 4 x 48. It is a perfect size when you do not have much time to enjoy a larger size smoke, but demand quality in those 45 minutes. This cigar is perfect when you want to take a short reality escape during the course of your day. They are also perfect after a good meal in a restaurant that does not allow smoking. You can take the Short Story outside while the others in your group have an after meal drink. When they are done, you will be done. Its perfect. The Short Story is truly the gold standard for which all other perfecto size cigars are measured. Since the price has decreased, I am proud to say that the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story is a winner of a GoldenMonkey Award. MonkeyDan Rating: 94

Short Story

Review by CigarSmokerAnonymous on January 31, 2007

The AF Short Story is a treat for the eyes and the palate. Wrapped in a beautiful oily tan wrapper it had a light pleasent aroma pre-light. The tip lit easily and transferred an even burn to the main barrel of the cigar and burned consistantly throughout. The ash formed a beautiful cone and remained a consistant un-mottled grey. Smoke volume was average. The cigar started out medium and became more robust as it burned. An earthy flavor with some peppery bite made the cigar quite enjoyable. Please consider this review knowing my favorite cigars are the Padron 2000 and the 5 Vegas.

Arturo Fuente - Hemingway Short Story

Review by The_Stogemiester on January 27, 2007

<P class=MsoNormal style=MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt>Arturo Fuente - Hemingway Short Story A Beautiful Tan-Brown wrapper with excellent tooth and a nice oily sheen caresss this cigar. A well constructed stogie that is easy on the eyes. Sweet Wood, earth and some spice round up most of the flavor profile of this medium bodied smoke. The cigar also develops some additional flavors as you smoke it such as mellow cream and some occasional graham cracker notes on the medium finish. The short story always needs a little toughing up right at the beginning to get over the perfecto tip but after that it burns like a champ requiring no more touch ups. A very pleasant aroma compliments this cigars as well as a nice draw with plenty of smoke. It produced a nice ash that hung on for 2 1/2 before it fell off. Not a bad smoke at all, IMO its not a short smoke. Depending on how fast you smoke it the time can be up to 45 min or 1 hour. It’s at least worth trying once, a good performer in all aspects.

The Hemingway Short Story further proves the saying,Good things come in small packages. Expertly constructed (as all Fuentes are)with an even burn throughout. Starts smooth and mild,as the ash begins to form the flavor comes through. Hints of cedar, nuts, and spices. A great 35+ minute smoke.

Short but sweet!

Review by Mark Klein on January 25, 2007

Fuente gets right to the point on this flavorful figurado. The cedar hits immediately with a nice spicy accompaniment. There is no time to build up flavor with different fillers along the way so once the tip starts burning what you taste is what you get throughout the short smoke which, by the way, is appreciated by anyone who has young kids. Despite its finger-length stature, it delivers a spicy, medium-bodied smoke. The next step up: The Hemmingway Work of Art, only because the larger size allows for a little more complexity.

Hemingway Short Story (4.00 x 48)

Review by Kevin Ede on January 20, 2007

The Hemingway Short Story is an excellent half hour indulgence. It is smooth, creamy, and rich but not overbearing. Easily lit, it maintains a nice long ash. It is simply one of the finest “dog walkers” I’ve ever had. This cigar has body, loaded with flavor and is consistent to the end. There was a hint of walnut almost throughout the smoke and it finished so well I had to smoke this stick right down to a nub! I’ve heard it said that these are a little pricey, but I think they are well worth it!

The Hemingway Short Story is a Perfecto shape that measures 4 X 48. The cigar lasted 50 minutes,. This is a lot longer than I expected for a cigar of it size. It had hints spice including black pepper and anis. Halfway through this cigar I could start to also taste some roasted nuts. I smoked this cigar all the way down to a nub, which I usually do not do with cigars. You should buy a box today!

A Short Story

Review by Billy Haboush on January 20, 2007

Ive always liked Fuente cigars. They are great cigars with great flavors. The Short Story is no exception. Prelit bouquet was nutty, much like walnuts or almonds. Once lit, you could tell this cigar was aged well. The nutty flavors increased with some ‘burnt wood’ flavors mixed in as well. The draw was wonderful, the construction was well done. All in all, a great smoke for the drive into work, OR the drive back home from work.

Review by Jermi Halabou on January 18, 2007

Where to start....I am a huge fan of Fuente cigars and the Short Story doesnt dissapoint. A medium bodied cigar with a touch of sweetness thanks to the Cameroon wrapper. The thing I noticed most was the incredibly white ash of the cigar. This denotes that Fuente took much care and time to age this cigar befor releasing it. My only complaint was it was too short. A truly enjoyable smoke.

Nothing Short in flavor here!

Review by Ben Wong on January 18, 2007

This is my 2nd experience with the SS and in each case, flawless quality comes along with this Fuente product. The Colorado wrapper boasted a cocoa-tinged walnut colour embellished with burnt umber streaks, as well as dark coffee markings. Burn was absolutely perfect from tip to nub requiring no relights. Ash was very firm, grey at the perimeter to charcoal at the center. Aroma was :Hemmingway, a bouquet of medium tobacco and coffee with an ancilliary scent of musty cedar. Flavor, while not strong or overbearing, was one of well aged tobacco with both muted floral and herbal tints. A very pleasurable experience.

The Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story is the perfect short smoke. The cameroon wrapper has a nice chocolate colored hue to it. Draws nice and easy and the ash held on to the band. The Short Story has a nutty flavor that lingers on the palate nicely. This cigar is perfect for those times when you cant linger over a cigar. On the other hand it is perfect for any time of the day.

Awesome little cigar

Review by Austin Keay on January 16, 2007

The Hemingway Short Story is a little cigar that packs mouthfuls of flavour. You can smoke this down in 30 minutes easily or let the peppery, woodsy, and somewhat nutty flavour captivate you for close to an hour. Not a great morning smoke by any means and I like a little more body and spice for the end of the day, so this little beauty fits well almost any other time of day with out requiring an hour to finish. Smokes well with a good draw, but the shape really steals some of the show. I would highly recommend this little guy and it definately will not break the bank either.

Hemingway Short

Review by Shawn Varner on January 15, 2007

Little Powerhouse thats what I would call this. Great shape, I love it, the wrapper is beautiful. Starts off mild building in intensity. A little peppery but not to spicy, builds nicely though to a thorough woodsy taste; cedar taste. Takes a little longer than you would think, but burns consistently, no boating, and the ash has these great rings that show the depth of this shorty. I would have rated it higher but the flavor was not completely to my liking. But thats the great thing about cigars everyones palate is different. A. Fuente knows how to make good cigars though and the construction is probably the best I have ever seen.

Ive wanted to sample one of these since I read its accolades last year. It is a friendly cigar with a subtle sweetness, medium in strength. While I have yet to become bored with standard cigar construction, I enjoyed the exotic design of the Short Story. At only 5 in length, I would have expected a shorter smoke than the 45 minutes I enjoyed. But I really didnt want to put it down.

Beautifully made cigar.

Review by Robert Mckiewicz on January 14, 2007

I received the Short Story with much anticipation. It was perfectly rolled, had a nice medium brown wrapper, with a light oily sheen. It lit easily, and burned even better. I smoked it for 43 minutes, down to the last inch. I think more humi time would have helped tone down the overpowering black pepper that masked the other more subdued flavors. The smoke produced was copious, and the ash, an even light grey. A snifter of brandy, or cognac would have made my experience more enjoyable,

Review by Greg Berry on January 14, 2007

This is labeled on the site as a Perfecto shape, similar to other makers who describe the shape as a Figurado. The 48 ring size only applies to the largest bulge of the cigar, and it tapers down to not a lot bigger than cigarette size at the cap. It’s a full-bodied smoke, would be great with a nice full-bodied glass of wine after dinner. I’m a punch user unless the cigar’s a Torpedo, but I needed to pull a bit too hard. It gets better after the first half-inch, and it really stepped up in draw and flavor when I used a cutter to clip the cap more conventionally. It got a little harsher when I got it down to 1 ½”, but worth keeping on down to 1”. A 7.5

Perfect for the short trip or time shortened smoking session. The Hemingway Short Story smokes large, burns excellent, and has a clean scent. Next timing you looking for a little reason to smoke; put the Hemingway Short Story on your list.

Packed with power in a sort smoke

Review by Erik Lee on January 11, 2007

If you like that classic fuente taste then youll love the Hemingway Short Story. Its pointed tip makes it a cinch to light up and burns ohh so smooth and even. I found it only gave about 25 minutes of pleasure, but ohh so pleasureable it was.

Hemingway Short Story

Review by Robert Hayes on January 11, 2007

This an exquisitely rolled mild bodied cigar, with a peppery taste given to it by the Cameroon wrapper. Its just the right size for those times when you cant smoke a full sized Hemingway.

Tasty Sweet Shorty

Review by Tony Manziano on January 09, 2007

The Hemingway Short Story is 60 minutes of tasty sweetness. Good construction, excellent draw and burn. I find its perfect size for my rush hour drive home with the Garden State Parkway traffic.

Powerful little smoke the Hemingway Short Story

Review by Richard Plasencia on January 05, 2007

the hemingway short story always impresses me, the apperance of its size does not prepare you for the power and flavor packed inside, nice slow burn, wrapper has hints of fruitiness, smooth draw, a typical hemingway
