The Surrogates Six Pack Robusto Sampler is the first time these blends, minus the Animal Cracker, are presented in a 5.00 x 50 Robusto size. The Surrogate cigars are part of Pete Johnson's L'Atelier cigar brand, which launched in 2012. L'Atelier is French for "the workshop" and the name is fitting for Pete Johnson, who always seems to be cooking up something new with Pepin Garcia. Among the goals for this line were availability and price, but that doesn't mean these cigars are lacking in quality. On the contrary, they can rival some of the more costly sticks in your humidor.

Surrogates Skull Breaker

Leading things off with an ever-so-friendly name is the Surrogates Skull Breaker. The band on this cigar has a badass red skull, so you know it's not messing around, but neither are you, so nothing to worry about there. The dark red wrapper is an oiled-out Connecticut broadleaf that covers robust long-fillers and a binder grown in Nicaragua.

Light this number up, and you're immediately hit with intense black pepper and spice. Further down the stick, flavors of leather and espresso back down the pepper some, so no need to get dramatic and put on a helmet or anything. There's no skull breaking here. Keep smoking, and you'll get sweetness and cedar. Toward the end, the black pepper picks back up, but nothing like the first third. The Skull Breaker is full-bodied and produces thick clouds of smoke. It's an exciting ride if you're up to the challenge.

Surrogates Crystal Baller

If you're looking for a glimpse into the future with the Surrogates Crystal Baller, we can tell you with certainty it's both spicy and sweet. At the core of this cigar is a quality blend of Nicaraguan long-fillers and binder. Above that is an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper which brings it all together.

Once you spark your lighter to gaze into the Crystal Baller, your palate is hit with creamy smoke and flavors of chocolate and sweetness, though things get spicy pretty quick. Travel a little further down, and the spiciness continues as it's met with cedar. The spice remains all the way through, though the sweet flavors pick back up and create a nice balance. The Crystal Baller overflows with flavor and is an excellent addition to any humidor.

Surrogates Tramp Stamp

Up next in the Surrogates Six Pack Robusto Sampler is the colorfully named Tramp Stamp. If you're familiar with these "stamps" then you'll immediately chuckle at the butterfly displayed on the cigar's band. But don't worry there's no walk of shame after smoking this one. Beneath an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper is a rich 100% Nicaraguan tobacco blend.

Light this easy lady up, and you're hit with a blast of pepper that settles down quickly with the addition of earthiness. About halfway through, the sweetness and earth pick up as the spiciness settles into the background. Toward the end, all of these flavors balance out along with the addition of cedar.

Surrogates Animal Cracker

Batting cleanup, we have the Surrogates Animal Cracker. This full-bodied smoke wears a dark brown Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper that conceals a hearty blend of tobaccos grown in the rich soils of Nicaragua. Get this cracker started, and you'll notice the spice and pepper you've come to expect from Tatuaje. Sweetness and coffee are soon introduced, along with earth, leather, and espresso. The grand finale is a smooth combination of these flavors. Make sure to eat a full meal first, and by that, we don't mean a bunch of cookies.

Surrogates Satin Glove

No need to rent a tux, though things are apparently getting fancy in the Surrogates Six Pack Robusto Sampler with the Surrogates Satin Glove. The wrapper here is a delicious San Andres leaf that is about as dark chocolate brown in color as possible. At its core, the Satin Glove holds premium Nicaraguan tobaccos. This cigar starts off spicy before downshifting a bit with chocolate, earth, and cedar notes. While these all continue, the earth and chocolate flavors are the real stars of this creamy smoke show.

Surrogates 7th Sam

Finishing off our Surrogates Six Pack Robusto Sampler is something truly special. The Surrogates 7th Sam is jammed packed with seven different types of premium tobacco. Get these seven tobaccos revved up, and you're in for one seriously complex ride with flavors of leather, spice, cedar, coffee, cocoa, and cream.
