La Gloria Cubana Special Release Artesanos de Obelisco
One can trace the La Gloria Cubana story all the way back to 1885 in Cuba. In the 1960s, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo Sr. acquired the non-Cuban side of the brand. He set up shop in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami and began producing small batches. In the mid-1970s, his son, Ernesto Jr., wanted to take the brand in a more complex, bolder direction. This was achieved by incorporating Nicaraguan tobaccos into the blends. La Gloria Cubana Special Release Artesanos de Obelisco cigars demonstrate this approach by using double Nicaraguan ligero.
During the cigar boom of the 1990s, the La Gloria Cubana brand surged to become one of the more popular of the era. Due to consistency in flavor and craftsmanship, the brand remains in high demand. The attention to detail it takes to maintain this high level of consistency results from the La Gloria Cubana artisans and their mentors. The highly respected mentors come to the job equipped with a lifetime of cigar industry knowledge which they use to guide the artisans who are no strangers to the art of cigar making. Through building on these artisans' strengths and expanding their skillset, the mentors get them to a place where they are more than qualified to produce high-quality La Gloria Cubana sticks.
When smoking La Gloria Cubana Special Release Artesanos de Obelisco cigars, expect a complex experience of black pepper, spicy cedar, sweet cream, and coffee. What makes this cigar so complex starts with the use of Dominican long-fillers and double Nicaraguan ligero in the core blend. Next, a Connecticut broadleaf binder comes into the picture before an oily Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper covers everything up.
La Gloria Cubana Special Release Artesanos de Obelisco cigars are rolled in an obelisk shape (picture the Washington Monument), meant to replicate the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration located in the Dominican city, Santiago de los Caballeros. This monument pays tribute to those who fought in the Dominican Restoration War (1863 - 1865) against Spanish forces.

La Gloria Cubana Obelisco
This is an outstanding little stick. Great draw, construction, flavor, & looks. There is some stiff competition in this price point but this medium bodied wonder trumps the vast majority of them. About the only thing I ever wish for in this stick is a leathery type wrapper but that is just my taste.
