Being a fan of the 5 Vegas Classic and Gold Double Nickel, I was really looking forward to trying out the full bodied offering from 5 Vegas. The box press on this smoke is very nice and, coupled with the dark oily juicy Costa Rican maduro wrapper,it catches the eye.The cigar was firm to the touch and it was perfect in construction. The Series A cut, toasted, and lit well, with the first draw producing a nice amount of fragrant smoke. The smoke burned evenly throughout with a nice long ash.Roasted nuts and coffee really hit me on the first draw of this smoke. The aftertaste is long and pleasant, featuring an enjoyable sweetness that relaxes your palate.Lastly, for $3-$4 per stick I will boldly state that this cigar may very well be the best bargain in the entire industry. If you are a fan of medium to full bodied cigars, you owe it to yourself to pull the trigger on a box of ‘A’ or at least try a five pack..
I love the Series A. Its a medium body stick with lots of good flavors. I taste spice, earth, oak, cedar, and a little cocoa. A good maduro should bring these flavors to the table. The last third is my favorite with notes of sweet tobacco and cinnamon. Series ‘A’ is advertised as the stronger, fuller 5 Vegas Classic. I completely disagree. The 5 Vegas is a strong cigar when aged properly. Very spicy. The A is sweeter and medium bodied but full flavored. Construction was great (as with all Vegas cigars) and the flavor was toasty with subtle hints of chocolate and coffee. In the last third, the flavor picks up and there are less touches of cocoa and more of a woodsy flavor on the palate. The 5-1/2 x 55 is the perfect size for me. the big ring gauge allows for a slower smoke even though its not that far from being a Robusto. But they got it right on this one...adding half an inch in length and 5/64 in gauge makes it a more fulfilling smoke. The flavors project more like a Corona Gorda. I love to smoke this while doing errands. In the garage, its a good 45-60 minute smoke. In my truck, I can put the cigar down in my travel ashtray...go do an errand, come back 10 minutes later, and its still lit. It has beautiful construction. Its oily and shiny. Roasted nuts and coffee really amp up in the second third leading to the big finale of notes of espresso, leather and oak. A real muscular stick. This always has a place in my humidor. Let them age for 6 months and you have a masterpiece.
