Like so many cigar companies, Rocky Patel is a family affair. There’s Rakesh Patel (the owner), Nish Patel (his brother), and also Nimish Desai (his cousin). And perhaps, in the future, there will be others as well. The Nimmy D cigar was created by Nimish, and it’s a real banger. It’s got a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper around a Honduran Jamastran binder that’s packed with Nicaraguan long-fillers from Estelí and Jalapa. The smoke is full bodied, and delivers potent flavors of earth, black pepper, cedar, and licorice. This isn’t your everyday stick – it packs a punch.
Nimmy himself has followed Rocky’s blueprint for success in the cigar business: he travels all around the country, meeting everyone he can, especially retailers, to build relationships. Visitors to Rocky’s Honduran factory, however, just might get a tour of the facility from Mr. Desai. He’s also a bigwig. For almost two decades, he’s been the Vice President of Operations, keeping an eye on production and making sure that every cigar that leaves the factories is up to Rocky’s exacting standards. As a former lawyer, Mr. Patel is highly detail oriented and something of a perfectionist. It can be kind of a curse, but clearly it’s worked out for the brand, as one gorgeous, well-blended cigar after another is created by the RP torcedores in Nicaragua and Honduras.
