No, it isn’t the result of one of your late night porn searches – the Rocky Patel “Dark Dominican” is a 91-rated cigar you’re going to love. And you’re free to fire it up during whatever activities you choose.
Let’s get into the specifics. The outside is irresistibly dark and inviting, thanks to a well-aged Dominican Sun Grown Maduro wrapper that’s almost classified as an Oscuro. Inside, there’s a Dominican binder and filler blend that creates medium to full bodied smoke with an absolute wealth of flavors.
In the beginning, the cigar is rich and earthy, toasty, with a sweet caramel crème brûlée finish (honestly, we’re just seeing how many accents we can get over our letters at this point). After that, things really get interesting, as a ton of savory, steak dinner notes come flowing in: seared ribeye, Worcestershire sauce, even the memory of garlic somewhere in there. The final third is lip-smackingly good, with cream and spice to send you on your way.
Suffice to say, we think this one may be a tiny bit underrated.
We’ll see how future years’ sticks stack up against this one. With the right tobacco crop and a dash of luck, the Rocky Patel Dark Dominican could turn some serious heads. This cigar is the first offering from RP based on Dominican tobaccos, and shows a lot of promise. It’s from the same General Cigar factory that produced the well-liked Vintage line, as well as non-Cuban smokes for the Cohiba, Partagás, and La Gloria Cubana brands. We’re keeping an eye on this one for sure, and will be excited to get a notice that the next round is coming out.
