In ten years, you might be able to go from undergrad to a Ph.D. And when you get to the end, the tobacco that Perdomo stored away on your first day at school will finally be ready for rolling into your celebration cigar.
That’s what the Perdomo Small Batch Connecticut blend is about.
The long-filler blend features Cuban-seed Nicaraguan tobacco from Perdomo farms in the Estelí, Jalapa, and Condega regions of Nicaragua that has been aged for ten years, bringing it to the height of maturity and flavor. Beyond that point in time, it’s quite hard to say how the tobacco will change from year to year (although some brands do offer leaf aged to twenty years and beyond for those who want to know what awaits them if they can be patient for a big chunk of their lifetime with their tobacco).
The wrapper leaf is a butterscotch blonde Ecuadorian Connecticut that has been aged in bourbon barrels to infuse it with an extra dimension of flavor. The result isn’t a boozy flavor profile, but rather an additional kick of oaky smokiness in the draw.
Perdomo Small Batch Connecticut cigars are made with smaller leaves carefully selected to suit the sizes and shapes of the line, which also includes a Maduro and a sun-grown version. There’s not a ton of these made due to the rarity of the tobacco needed, and so the production runs tend to be small batches – thus the name.
Altogether, the flavors of the Perdomo Small Batch Connecticut cigar tend to be creamy but still complex and rich, thanks to notes of caramel, toast, oatmeal, and black pepper. The mild-medium strength smoke has a long finish with hints of spice and honey. Perhaps that’s the effect of aging the tobacco so long and making use of bourbon barrels – you get a Connecticut that’s really unlike the standard CT cigar you can find anywhere on the market.
Perdomo Small Batch Connecticut cigars are a Connecticut on a whole new level – elevated, refined, and whole intriguing from one puff to the next.
