My Father Belicoso Variety Sampler Description
The My Father Belicoso Variety Sampler is an outstanding way to experience some of the best blends from My Father, but also to really celebrate one of the world’s best cigar makers.
Let’s start with the cigars. You’re getting two each of three different blends.
First up is the blend that really started it all – the My Father core line. For the My Father Belicoso Variety Sampler, you’re getting it in the No. 2 Belicoso (5.2 x 54). This was the 92-rated #16 cigar of 2010, and one of the original cigars that helped the Garcias carve out a reputation for themselves under their own brand name (the original blends were made for others in the early 2000s, like Tatuaje).
The flavors marked My Father as a special brand, right off the bat. Everything was so nicely balanced, from the first pepper bite to the warm nutty flavors, to the cedar and leather that carried us home. It was all thanks to the high-quality Nicaraguan long-filler tobacco inside, and the well-chosen Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper outside.
Next in the My Father Belicoso Variety Sampler is the My Father Connecticut. This is a step in a smoother, milder direction from Don Pepin, although there are still the classic Cubanesque flavors he’s known for, thanks to the criollo and Habano long-filler. The beautiful blonde wrapper is an Ecuadorian Connecticut seed tobacco, and it adds a honeyed and buttery note to the core blend. This one scored 90 from Cigar Aficionado, marking it as yet another fine cigar from My Father.
Last in the My Father Belicoso Variety Sampler is the finest in the bunch, the Le Bijou 1922 blend that took home Cigar of the Year from Cigar Aficionado. This box-pressed premium cigar was 2015’s finest and is possibly the gold standard for Nicaraguan puros. It was praised by CA for the “uncanny impressions of dark chocolate-covered raisins, savory leather, and a sweet and salty finish that resonates on the palate.” We won’t try to add to that. This is a cigar that simply everyone has to try at some point or another.
