While tobacco growing and cigar making companies are spread out all over the world, there’s a special type of company we all know and love, right here at home: the local cigar shop. But with independent shops located across the country, it can be difficult for them to coordinate. That’s why the Tobacconists Association of America (TAA) was created. It’s an organization that allows brick and mortar cigar retailers to join together to discuss the industry, hook up with suppliers, and, as a side bonus, gain access to special exclusive cigar blends like the Gurkha Heritage.
The Gurkha Heritage cigar was blended up to celebrate the TAA’s 50th anniversary.
Over the decades, the TAA has helped cigar shops share information, solve problems together, and offer limited edition smokes like this. These cigars tend to be a way for a blender to offer a special “gift” to the retailers who join. Of course, cigar smokers are the real beneficiaries here.
Gurkha Heritage Maduro
The Gurkha Heritage Maduro cigar changes up the blend completely. This is really a totally new cigar when you get down to it. It’s what’s known as a Double Maduro, which can mean two things: 1) An extra dark Maduro or 2) a cigar that features both a Maduro wrapper and binder. In this case, it’s the latter. There’s a Mexican San Andrés Maduro wrapper, a Brazilian Arapiraca Maduro binder, and Nicaraguan and Brazilian long-fillers. Toast the foot for medium-full bodied smoke with lovely dark flavors of Swiss chocolate, earth, and a touch of black pepper.
The Heritage cigar comes in boxes of 35. The Heritage Special Edition is available in humidors filled with 20 Maduro cigars, and there’s also a Heritage Sampler with 10 Natural and 10 Maduro cigars for those torn between the two wrappers.
These are really rich blends and ones that offer a chance to smoke cigars where Gurkha has allowed some outside influence on the tobacco chosen with very tasty results.
