You may be familiar with the movie Django Unchained, featuring Jaime Foxx as the liberated slave badass with a gun. The Foundation Upsetters Django cigar was created, however, to honor the real-life Django, a man named Bass Reeves with an incredible story.

But first, the cigar!

Django is 5x54 with a Sumatra wrapper. Like the other cigars in this line, this is a Caribbean atmospheric herbal infusion, which features Nicaraguan filler and Jamaican cow tongue tobacco. We're not exactly sure how Foundation flavors these cigars, but we do know that owner Nick Melillo learned a lot of cigar making methods in his time at Drew Estate. There, he may have picked up the secret techniques used to create ACID cigars, which are infused in flavoring chambers that may contain essential oils, herbs, and botanicals. In any event, this cigar tastes of rich Nicaraguan tobacco, but also honey, clove, and spice. It's a fascinating mix and definitely a cigar for people who are a little tired of the status quo in their humidors.

What's that, you say? Tell you about the real Django? Certainly!

Bass Reeves was born a slave in Arkansas in 1838. Eventually, his owner took up for the Confederacy and brought Bass to war. Sometime after that, they had an altercation over a game of cards (perhaps the fact that one person owned the other added some fuel to the fire?) Bass gave his owner a beatdown and headed for the Indian Territory to live as a fugitive slave among the Cherokee, Creeks, and Seminoles. In later years, he would be appointed a deputy U.S. Marshall to help bring law and order to the area. In his career, he arrested over 3000 men, killed 14, and somehow survived to old age in what had to be one of early America's most dangerous jobs.

These cigars are all about rude boys who don't accept injustice, and Foundation's Upsetters Django cigar is one bad mother fucker for sure.
