El Septimo Diamond Fabuloso Dark Ruby
El Septimo Diamond Fabuloso Dark Ruby cigars are a special inclusion in a very tasty collection of smokes. The Diamond blends feature well-aged Costa Rican tobacco, and while El Septimo is tight-lipped about the specifics, one can assume that the heart of the cigar is built around that type of leaf. We wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it was made exclusively from Costa Rican tobacco, in fact. The package references 5-year tobacco, so there’s definitely some leaf from the aging vault.
At the end of the day, we can only smoke and guess, experiencing the cigar on its own terms.
The Fabuloso Dark Ruby is a BIG cigar. The 6-inch length might not impress you (save your giggles, lads), but it’s the girth that makes this one so substantial. A 70-ring gauge, which once was unheard of, is now something we’ve all gotten more used to over time. Even though El Septimo presents these as luxury blends, we have to simply call this one what it is: a big fat stogie, in the best possible way.
You reach for this one when you want to spend *checks notes* three hours smoking. Seriously, that’s what El Septimo says the Fabuloso Dark Ruby cigar requires from you in terms of commitment. Three hours of puffing away. But the good news is, the company calls it “a perfect three-hour smoke.” So you’ve got that going for you.
This “big boy cigar” (again, El Septimo’s description) offers a ton of flavor notes. Seriously, we’re not sure if the tasters were eating through a wedding dessert buffet or smoking a cigar. Either way, you’re getting something of an indulgent feast in the Fabuloso Dark Ruby. You’ll light it up and be treated to notes of “roasted almonds, honey, white chocolate, and vanilla.” As the cigar goes along and you make your way through this behemoth, “A light spice surfaces late, and a savory oatmeal essence on the draw becomes more noticeable.” Things are kept quite interesting at each spot where leaf shifts, because “Transitions are highlighted by an increase in spice amid notes of cherry, nougat and sherry.”
You’re going on a journey, to flavor country. Oh wait, we can’t say that. That’s probably still trademarked by some tobacco company from days of yore. You’re going to Flavor Land. There. That’s where you’re going. El Septimo is the Peter Pan who will point you toward the Second Star to the Right and bring you to a magical land of smoky flavor.
