Drew Estate Undercrown Flying Pig Variety Sampler
They look delicious, don't they? The Drew Estate Undercrown Flying Pig Variety Sampler is your ticket to 12 chubby piggies that allow you to experience the full Undercrown core line.
Why "piggies"? Well, Drew Estate calls this 4 - 60 size the Flying Pig. As if we didn't have enough shapes and sizes (and names) to work with, now we've got another one. We can't complain, however, because the Drew Estate Undercrown line is delicious, especially in this format.
This Drew Estate cigar sampler features three different Undercrown blends: Maduro, Shade, and Sungrown.
The Undercrown Maduro was the first release of the original that was ordered up to kick off the line. Undercrowns were born to give Drew Estate's rollers something to puff on so that they would stop roasting up all the Liga Privada No. 9s. In a way, the Undercrown line is the real reason we can all enjoy Liga Privada today. Without the service of this blend, far too many of the original Ligas would have gone up in smoke.
The idea behind the blend was to use the same tobacco types but to switch up the priming or even vintage year so that Undercrown smoke would be different, but still recognizable to Liga fans. The wrapper is changed, though. The Drew Estate Undercrown Maduro Flying Pig goes deep into the dark with a Mexican Otapan negro Ultimo Corte wrapper. Inside there's some Connecticut Habano for the binder, and the Brazilian tobacco is shifted into the long-filler blend to join the Nicaraguan leaf core.
The flavor of the Undercrown Maduro is like dark-roasted coffee with a touch of sugar. Not as complex as the original Liga, but still a fantastic mix to kick off this Drew Estate Undercrown Flying Pig Variety Sampler.
The Undercrown Shade was the second to hit the market. This one brightened things up by trading that super dark Mexican Maduro leaf for a humble Ecuadorian Connecticut shade wrapper. Unlike the original Undercrown, this cigar was made as a collaboration between the rollers and blender Willy Herrera. He rounded out the blend with a Sumatra binder and introduced Dominican leaf into the long-filler mix.
This combination gives the Drew Estate Undercrown Shade Flying Pig a lighter spectrum of flavor than traditional Liga cigars. It's got a nice white pepper note upfront and then develops into a sweet and creamy tea flavor that is really nice for times when you don't want the full body and strength of a core Liga. This is the mildest of the cigars in the Drew Estate Undercrown Flying Pig Variety Sampler.
Third, to be released was the Drew Estate Undercrown Sungrown. This Flying Pig has an unmistakable cinnamon finish that follows the core of espresso and leather. It's probably the extra Ligero leaf saying hello. The rest of the blend in the Sungrown is made of Nicaraguan long-fillers, a Connecticut Habano binder, and an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. A fine combination, and real evolution of the Undercrown line for people who want something fresh each time.
At the end of the day, this sampler's really about the Flying Pig size. If you love a cigar that delivers a whole meal in a small bundle, the Drew Estate Undercrown Flying Pig Variety Sampler will give you a fun-sized flavor whenever you like.
Please enjoy the Drew Estate Undercrown Flying Pig Variety Sampler at your leisure.
