Caldwell Lost and Found Secret Stash 2003
The details, as with so many Lost and Found cigars, are somewhat unknown. What we do know about the Secret Stash 2003 cigar is that it’s primarily a Dominican blend. There’s some Honduran tobacco in the filler, and the wrapper is a classic Habano seed leaf. The thing to keep in mind is where this cigar comes from. It’s not yesterday’s crop. Some components of this cigar came off the stalk around 20 years ago! So take your flavor expectations from modern cigars and tap them into the ashtray.
Around 1,800 of these Caldwell Lost and Found Secret Stash 2003 cigars were found, so supplies are quite limited. They’re also a pretty special blend. While most aged cigars have had a few years of time at most, these have been evolving for almost two decades (at the time of this writing). The primary effect of extensive aging like this is to reduce the bite and strength and offer instead a subtle and complex flavor profile that some smokers come to enjoy as a true treasure of the industry.
Seriously, some folks are totally obsessed with super-aged cigars like this, and won’t smoke anything else. They’ll be hunting down ancient cigars at special sale events and fighting tooth and nail to get stogies that are 30 years old (or more!)
The 2003 Secret Stash is a Robusto, measuring 5 x 52. It’s a decent size, but nothing supermassive. It’s perfect for a smoke session when you want to kick back and really enjoy your cigar to the fullest. The flavors are incredibly smooth, with notes of cafe au lait and a hint of chicory. It’s like a high-end coffee that traded potency for refinement.
This is the oldest Secret Stash smoke we’ve seen available. They don’t get much more venerable than this unless you’re participating in an auction.
