not too great

Review by JP on July 07, 2007

It tasted like charcoal from the little smoke that I got. I threw it out and grabbed a Torano Silver.

Sampler review - Nice but boring

Review by Andy Beasley on April 12, 2007

Good leather and cedar flavor, mild-medium (I expected more strength, but enjoyed it), well constructed with an even burn. Consistent flavor start to finish. Was disappointed by the total lack of complexity. If someone gave me one of these, I wouldnt turn it down, but for the price there are a dozen other cigars Id rather have in my humidor.

For the money...

Review by Mark Klein on April 04, 2007

The Punch Rare Corojo Double Corona is a an above average smoke for the money. The chewy nature of corojo wrapper gives it some punch, pun intended. Overall, its an accessible smoke with a deep, straight-ahead tobacco flavor.

Punch Rare Corojo Double Corona

Review by The_Stogemiester on March 31, 2007

Punch Rare Corojo Double Corona 6.70 x 48 First of all we know this is not a Corojo cigar at all! Appereance and Construction (13 of 15 points possible) The wrapper on this cigar has minimal vien with a thick leathery, oily brown wrapper. Its a solid stick and has a nice box press Flavor (18 or 25 points possible) The flavor consist of leather, wood and some spice. The flavors are faint and kind of air-ish, not very well pronounced. At halfway the flavors are pretty much the same on a medium body with leather, wood, and some red pepper on the finish. The flavors are still faint and there is little complexity to the smoke. The cigar pretty much ended the way it began except for some youth it displayed at the last too inches with a bitter ammonia note. Smoking Characteristics (22 of 25 points possible) The ash hung on for about an inch before it fell off. The draw was loose and effortless. The aroma is nothing fancy, just a staight up aroma of tobacco. The cigar burned razor sharp requiring no touch-ups. Overall Impression (28 of 35 points possible) Of all the cigars I have revisited lately this one is exactly the same as I remebered it. The Punch Rare Corojo is a cigar lacking in flavor and are put out way to early, they almost always have some youth to them. I dont know what else to say but dont waste your money and buy something else. Total Score - 71

Hmmmm

Review by Bradley Russell on March 27, 2007

I made my opinion of this cigar after the first couple puffs and then realized that i was only slightly off. It burned well after a time, and was spicy. Its worth a try, at least it is consistent.

Not for me

Review by Cpoling on March 26, 2007

Pass. Never been a punch head and this one did not change my perception. A very low flavor mild smoke with nothing to comment on.

Fair ... Expected more.

Review by Craig S. on March 26, 2007

This was my first Punch cigar, and many say this is their go to cigar. This was an OK smoke. Couldnt seem to keep it lit, and had a draw on the tougher side. Perhaps more time in the humi would have done it some justice. Id be willing to give this one another shot.

Very niiiiice!

Review by Ed on March 15, 2007

Mild as far as the corojos go. Good construction (hint: if a box-pressed cigar falls apart when you cut it, Id say you need a new cutter). Creamy with hints of coffee and cocoa, but light on the spiciness usually associated with corojo wrapped cigars. If I were Borat, I would say, very niiiiice!. Ok, Im not, but I still would say that.

Decent smoke at a fair price

Review by West LA Martin on March 13, 2007

Nice smoke for the price point. Decent, full medium gray ash, burned evenly for the most part. Nice moderate flavor and depth. For about the same $, I prefer the Fonseca Vintage, or the A. Fuente Sun Grown (if you can find them) and albeit a much stronger smoke.

So-So

Review by abates on March 10, 2007

The first inch of this cigar was very smooth and creamy with just a hint of spice every once in a while. The ash was a dark grey and held almost 2 inches before falling. After about the halfway mark the flavor and body picked up with some cedar notes and a little more spice. Smoked it down to an inch and it never burned hot or bitter. I personally dont like the length or ring gauge of the double corona, but all in all not a particularly good or bad smoke.

Duck from this Punch

Review by Dan Bulzacchelli on March 09, 2007

I really wanted to like this cigar. It would not let me. Problems started on the cut, cap and wrapper split. It did stay lit, but the burn was off. Then a small split open up mid cigar. From what I did smoke the flavor was nothing special. I was so annoyed with burn, wrapper and draw problems I tossed it and grabbed a Padron. So, If you see this punch coming, duck.

Punch RC dbl-corona, sampler review

Review by C. Lewallen on March 09, 2007

March 6, 2:45pm, with coffee Square-pressed, dense but soft, consistent construction. Draw before lighting - medium draw, preferring a bit easier draw, with rich chocolately flavor. First puffs provide good volume of smoke, very tangy, draw came easier than expected. Started off tangy, and somewhat bitter, yet quickly smoothed out. Light gray, firm ash, even burn. Ash held strong, no flaking, tapping at an inch or so. After first quarter, I noticed the cigar remained smooth, and the bitterness wasn’t as pronounced as long as it wasn’t rushed. Coffee provided an acceptable companion, but I assume a Scotch or darker beer would be better suited to match this tangy cigar’s bite. To mid-point, the ash continued its steady, even burn, remained sturdy, only very slight flaking. Last third or so, the tanginess continued, the cigar’s strength increased, and the flavor altered slightly to what I would describe as cocoa or unsweetened, bitter chocolate. Still a pleasant flavor, bitterness not overpowering, but probably best suited to pair with a Scotch or some drier beverage. The Rare Corojo’s tanginess isn’t the flavor I personally look for in a cigar, but it is definitely above-average in construction, and a consistent cigar. Nice when not rushed.

Disappointed III

Review by Anthony Gutierrez on March 09, 2007

Beautiful, oily wrapper which is the Punch signature. Unfortunately, the smoke was flat, very one-dimensional. I expected more from this one.

smooth & buttery and also spicey!!!

Review by stephen cler on March 09, 2007

a very interesting combination of buttery smoothness and also spicey. i enjoyed it to the end but i think with some aging in the humidor, the flavors would have opened up much more.

Disappointed

Review by James Sainsbury on March 08, 2007

I really wanted to like this cigar. It started out flat with a muted musky blah flavor. The flavor profile never really changed throughout this cigar. It did however draw very well and had a nice firm white ash so at least it was aesthetically pleasing. With a couple of years rest, I would try it again, you never know.

Punch Rare Corojo Double Corona

Review by Gerald Lee on March 06, 2007

Punch makes an excellent Corojo. This fine cigar had an even draw the entire way. Its medium strength and medium in flavor. A bigger ring gauge would improve it but this is a very nice smoke on its own merits. In terms of taste, it has a woody/nutty flavor and a smooth, clean finish. It actually got a bit tastier the deeper into the smoke I got. Corojos have a different aroma - not bad, just different. Overall, this is better than an 8. The price makes the Punch Corojo Double Corona not just a good value but a good choice for a nice hour or so.

Disappointing

Review by Matt Kerntke on March 06, 2007

I tasted a heavy coffee note throughout and that was about it as for flavor. The draw was inconsistent, as other reviewers have also experienced. I have yet to be all that impressed by a Punch, however.

I like how this cigar is light and easy to smoke. It burned evenly and does not leave you with a bad after taste. Good cigar for the price.

Review

Review by Roland on March 06, 2007

The Punch Label in general has been a go to stick for me in the past. Ive had the Corojo in the past, although not this size. This is a box pressed beauity. The construction is subperb and the wrapper was free from blemishes. Prelight taset is creamy, with the aftertaste of a mild spice. The first draws are real smooth, real creamy and full of flavor. Nice white ash, good draw full of smoke. Initially this cigar is very VSG like, peppery, some spice but the combination is not a powerful one. I would assume that like the VSG this one should not be aged or it will loose some of that flavor. The last quarter burns hotter, but it doesnt overpower the taste and I had no wrapper issues. Burn was consistent no corrective lighting required. About an hour and 10 min smoke

Put the Punch in the Rare Corojo!

Review by MIchael Bell on March 06, 2007

This is one of my favorite cigars! It has a nice spicy taste. Consistent draw that burns evenly. I am never dissapointed when I smoke one of these. Put your tray tables and seat backs in their full and upright positions because this cigar rocks.

The luck of the draw - bad draw

Review by Ev-Monster on March 03, 2007

The tight draw on this cigar ruined the entire experience. What a shame...this baby gets a 9 for looks, gorgeous, flawless, smooth reddish-brown. It would have gotten a 9 for taste, but I couldnt taste it....The tight draw, almost plugged, ruined everything. Ive had most of my draw problems with square pressed cigars. I wish cigar manufacturers would just quit rolling them.

Punch Rare Corojo

Review by Adam Aleksander on March 03, 2007

This long cigar had a light start and later an uneven draw with a short aftertaste. Some earth tones, a nice white ash and a pretty good mid section after which it started to unravel and get a bit hot. Good taste overall, however.

Punch

Review by Hanna Cyba on March 03, 2007

A bit thin tasting for me, but nutty, musky and quite smooth - overall not bad. Inconsistent draw, however, a bit of a bitter end and not too much after taste, but does open up a bit in middle.

Spicy without drama

Review by James Teasley on February 26, 2007

Im a huge fan of Corojo wrappers. This cigar didnt let me down at all. Its got all the goodness of a traditional punch lingring in the background with a hearty dose of pepper up front. Sit down when you smoke one of these bad boys.
