ABOUTGurkha Grand Reserve
The prestigious Gurkha brand was originally reserved only for the pleasure of royalty and potentates. Today’s aficionados, with some effort, can enjoy these same fine smokes. The ingredients are rich and rare, so many of the Gurkhas are hard to find. They are worth the search.
The Gurkha Grand Reserve is limited to only about 500 boxes a year. If you find one of these, buy it, take it home, put it in a locked humidor in a secret room, and don’t even tell your wife you have it. Well, that is a bit extreme, but you get the idea. This is a very special cigar.
The Gurkha Grand Reserve is expertly hand rolled in the Cibao Valley of the Dominican Republic. The finest Dominican tobaccos are infused with more than a drop of Luis XIII cognac. The fine liqueur adds a velvety touch of sweetness while enhancing the innate spicy richness of the tobaccos. Of course, encasing this magnificent bounty in a dark and silky Connecticut shade wrapper is a must. Anything less would never do justice to this incredible smoke.
Mild- to medium-bodied, the Gurkha Grand Reserve offers sufficient complexity to satisfy the palate of the connoisseur—and perhaps a worthy novice taken under the wing. There is a pervasive taste of toasted nuts, enhanced by a creamy sensation, all ending with a startling burst of pepper that stimulates but never insults.
As you would expect, the Gurkha Grand Reserve’s construction is on a par with its siblings. It has a bit of a firm draw but is smooth overall.
If you can find these, the Gurkha Grand Reserves are a marvelous investment. Though quite rare, the price is not astronomical. Keep a sharp eye out and cultivate the good graces of your favorite tobacconist.
