ABOUTCohiba Red Dot
If you are one of those long-time aficionados of authentic Cuban cigars, then you probably know all about the Cohiba Red Dot. For the novice, a brief history of this marvelous cigar is in order.
Suffice it to say that the Cohiba Red Dot is the Dominican iteration of the original and legendary Cuban. Despite the necessary relocation of operations to the Dominican Republic after the nationalization of the Cuban cigar and tobacco industries in 1959, the Cohiba quality has not suffered. In fact, the Red Dot is the only “Cuban” cigar that it is possible to purchase legally in the United States at this time.
One of the secrets of the Cohiba Red Dot’s status as a worthy successor is the use of the celebrated Piloto Cubano leaf in its filler. The seed for this tasty tobacco was in the baggage of Carlos Torano when he fled to the Dominican Republic from Cuba. Bound with a rare Indonesian Jember, the Red Dot is finished with an oily, dark, rich Cameroon wrapper. These key ingredients combine in a synergy to create the Cohiba Red Dot.
For all its Cuban roots, the Red Dot is a surprisingly mild-mannered cigar. The body is medium to full but delivers a smooth mingling of complex flavors. It starts out creamy and nutty, shifting to citrus and coffee with a slight peppery tang as you progress through these Cohiba Cigars. This is one cigar that never grows harsh at the end.
The Cohiba Red Dot is such a good cigar that you really need to have at least a few of them in your humidor. It is a premium cigar and represents some of the best smoking available.
