Description

The CAO Black Gothic is 6.00 inches in length and sports a 52 ring gauge. It is offered in boxes of 20 and is a wonderful box to have on hand to enjoy and to offer to guests. Why? The CAO Black is the quintessential cigar, the first blend the company offered. The goal was to make a perfect cigar that everyone would enjoy, with middle of the road pricing but of the absolute highest quality and flavor – like a perfect sirloin steak, basic and incomparable. Many enthusiasts of fine cigars think they nailed it, resulting in stogies of exceptional quality. They are excellent for the beginner and a favorite of the seasoned smoker looking for something just right for any occasion, or even daily. The blend is medium-bodied and very, very smooth, with a gentle finish that lingers pleasantly. These are highly rated cigars yet very affordable. Made in limited numbers, picking up a couple of boxes of CAO Black Gothic, the cigars that introduced CAO to the world, makes good dollars and perfect sense.

Big on Flavor

Review by Ralph S on October 20, 2011

The Ashton Classic is a top 5 smoke for me and the first couple Gothics I tried give the Classic a run for its money. Not as much depth, but close. The flavors I encountered included toasted pecans and cedar, with definite sweet highlights. Nice construction; good burn. Draw a tad too easy is my only complaint.

great taster

Review by Mo Freeman on July 27, 2011

The flavor is medium, but with some Nicaraguan filler and the Nic binder, it is quite full in the body. I was feeling it at the end. It has a nutty taste, with fresh bread notes and hints of something sweet. It’s delicious, IMO. The Partagas Black Label and the Ashton VSG come to mind.

Anejo Knock-off?

Review by joe romeo on July 07, 2011

This torpedo is a very solid smoke. The construction is quite good, not flawless. It has some character. The draw is excellent like the entire Black line. The flavor is where this stogie shines. I tasted lots of creamy mocha with hints of cedar and even some tart cherry. Very smooth and long on the finish. I had an Arturo Fuente Anejo recently that could have been out of the same box.

Poor man’s Opus X

Review by Robert C. on June 30, 2011

The Black Bengal is a favorite of mine. This cigar is beefier and more intense, especially past the band. Stronger notes of leather and spice, with fewer sweet morsels. I still enjoyed it and will put the rest of my sampler in the humidor to see if they mellow. Fans of stronger cigars like the Arturo Fuente Opus X will find a less-expensive alternative.

This cigar is absolutely great for any occasion. During a round of golf, after dinner or just sitting back and relaxing.
