The Ashton Aged Maduro No. 60 is a dark, handsome stick 7.5 inches long with a ring gauge of 52. These attractive cigars are sold in boxes of 25 and the wonderful thing is this: they taste even better than they look. The smooth, winsome flavor is produced by three unique variables. First, the filler leaves are choice Ashton tobaccos grown in fertile Dominican soil. Secondly, the wrappers are chosen from the top few percent of a rare Connecticut broad leaf with very limited production to begin with. The dark sheath delivers a lovely pre-light draw and aroma, and you’ll find yourself lingering over these cigars longer than usual before you put the torch to them. When lit the pleasure will only deepen, due in part to the third factor in their rich flavor. These cigars were aged in sherry-finished oak barrels and allowed to ferment naturally until the perfect blend of sweet and savory was produced. Comparing these superb cigars to Arturo Fuente Anejo cigars or a Gurkha G3 would not be inappropriate. If you love a rich, toasty Maduro for dessert these cigars will satisfy your palate every time, with far fewer calories than that piece of chocolate cheesecake!

Nicely Aged Cigar

Review by Jim Allen on March 27, 2011

The pre-light aroma is that of tobacco and grass. Pre-light taste is earthy. It left a spicy sensation where it touched my lips. This 7.5×52 stick is almost black with a firm wrapper with some tooth, few veins, packed well, and an oily, peppery aroma. First light has a loose draw, lots of billowing smoke giving a body of sweet, cedar, earthy flavors. The first third burns like a champ, getting smoother and blending well with each other giving it some complexity early on. The sweetness fades a bit about a third way in. At the half way point the flavors pickup with a slight sweet nuttiness and a creamy sweet leather exploded out of nowhere. Youd think that such a thick, oily wrapper leaf would have burn issues, but this is not the case. Its got an even burn throughout the cigar. Despite its medium body, full flavored profile, I found it to be one of the smoothest cigars Ive ever smoked.
