Im a toro guy all the way. I prefer the maduro to the other blends. Its got more heft in the taste department than the classic or cabinet series. And the price point is right for me. The ESG, VSG, and Heritage have fantastic wrappers but I just cant afford a box. Initial light up is mostly nutty with coffee and leather. As the cigar continues the leather and cedar profile gets stronger. I also get tones of creaminess halfway through that makes me love this cigar. I dont know how a cigar can taste creamy, but it does. Ive asked friends about this and everyone just shakes their heads. Ive even Googled it with no success. I dont know if its a trained palate...or something in the fermentation process that creates this flavor. Ive also noted that creaminess only occurs in two formats: A super primo cigar that has been aged for years before you get it, or...a cigar that you have aged in your humidor for years. So obviously, it has something to do with aging. Id love to have someone explain the physics of this to me someday, if they can. The first third has just a great burn. Dead even. It keeps getting smoother, creamier, and more complex. As the second third kicks in, the flavors pickup. A mild pepper continues on the finish. A cocoa replaces the nuttiness on the second half, bringing the pepper taste gently and holding the body flavors on the finish longer. As I look at the stick, The Toro is solid with the proper weight and there are no soft spots anywhere. The dark wrapper is oily and shines in the sun light...the texture is actually rough. Ive smoked all of the Ashton blends and the wrappers are exquisite. There must be some hidden, dark secret that causes this blend to have this rough exterior. Go figure. The combination of Dominican fillers provides toasty flavors of wood and cocoa that accompany its creamy, smooth flavor. During the burn, flavors of leather and earth are in the background with a spicy sweet tobacco finish to make this a very complex cigar. This is a very full flavored stick, but its very smooth and never overpowers. The price of this blend meets my needs perfectly. Its on my regular rotation of monthly orders from cigars direct.
