While it is true that these cigars have only been out a couple of years, it still bears mentioning that every significant L’Atelier cigar review has rated them at least a 90. Pete Johnson (Tatuaje, La Riqueza, Surrogates) went to work with his production partners, the Garcias, and created another winner. The French word l’atelier is translated “workshop.” It often refers to a workshop in which an artisan practices their craft. That’s the attitude Johnson has when concocting a new blend. He wants it to be something unique, creative and exceptionally well done. If you’re not familiar with the Garcia family, they are the makers of My Father cigars and the Don Pepin Garcia lines. They also make cigars for a number of other brands in addition to Pete Johnson’s. L’Atelier Tobacco Blend and Flavor The binder and filler tobaccos used for LATs, as they are commonly called, are cultivated in Nicaragua. The wrapper is a Sancti Spíritus grown in Ecuador. That standard L’Atelier delivers a very smooth smoke filled with a core of creamy leather topped with woody notes, milk chocolate and lightly salted nuts. The L’Atelier Maduro blend is slightly different. The binder is a Sancti Spíritus leaf and the wrapper is a US-grown Connecticut Broadleaf. The maduro wrapper delivers slightly sweeter cocoa to go with the core of leather, wood and nuts. L’Atelier Cigars Ratings We’ve said the ratings given in L’Atelier cigar reviews are high. To date, the highest has been the 94 in 2013 when the LAT56 was named Cigar Aficionado’s number 12 cigar in its Top 25 annual list.
