This cigar derives its name from the blockbuster HBO series The Sopranos. If you’re going to name one of your cigars after one of the most successful TV shows of all time, you’d better make it extra-good. That’s exactly what CAO did in this case, building on the company’s already impressive reputation for excellence.
CAO cigars used a memorable blend of its Nicaraguan, Dominican, and Colombian tobaccos for the filler, bound it all with a select Honduran binder, and finished off the Sopranos with a dark, lightly veined Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper. The result was a full-bodied cigar of satisfying complexity.
What you’ll taste in a CAO Sopranos is an ever-shifting play of flavors; caramel, nuts, and cinnamon predominate during the first third of the cigar, with a distinct tone of leather thereafter. The Sopranos’ excellent construction provides a nice, easy draw with an even burn. Tony Soprano would revel in that big cloud of smoke if he were lucky enough to have scored a box of these cigars. The Sopranos is just a good solid cigar all along its length, promising few issues with soft spots. You’ll also find it produces a solid ash that clings to the end of the cigar for an inch or more.
CAO maintains the Sopranos’ theme throughout the naming of the various sizes: Associate, Boss, and Soldier. As you’d expect, the Boss is the capo di capi of the line, an impressive 7.00 X 56. Now, that’s a cigar Tony would be proud to be seen smoking. Whatever you do, after you’ve smoked your first CAO Sopranos, don’t “fuhgeddaboudit.” Mark this cigar well, buy it when you can find it, and smoke it often.
